In Odisha, 572 tribe girl students and women have become victims of Rape in the last five years.
Today, the world is dreaming of going to Mars, but there is no shortage of people here who defame and push society into ruins. My words may sound harsh and harmful to you, but today, we live in a society where no one is safe, be it girls, women, or eagerly. These things are not words from a book; these are the dark truth of society which has just been revealed by the SC-ST development minister Mr. Nityananda Gond at the state assembly last Friday, that “as many 572 tribal girls students and women have become victims rape in the previous five years in Odisha. Out of 572 rape case trials have been completed in 32 cases, the rest 509 cases are chargesheets filed, and another 31 cases are under investigation.
This is a written reply to a query by Congress legislator Mr Tara Prasad Bahinipati. Nityananda Gond also addressed that these 572 tribal girls had become victims of Rape under scheduled castes and scheduled Tribes. Odisha had registered 2,826 rape cases in 2023 compared to 3,184 in 2022 and 3,327 in 2021.
Even though Rourkela is not yet behind in these matters, from 2019 to 2024, I want to bring some such heart-wrenching cases in front of the people so that awareness about this matter is created among the people and such misdeeds in society are reduced. In the year 2020, September, a 22-year-old girl from a remote village under Gurundia Police Station of Sundargarh District reportedly reached Chhend Polic Station; Rourkela lodged a Condition kidnapping and Rape.
In the year of 2019, 3 brutal rape and murder cases have registered in Sundargarh.
In the first incident, a 17-year girl was allegedly raped by ten persons, including minors, in a forest near Harpali village, under the Birmitrapur Police station, which was around 30km away from Rourkela.
In the Second Incident, Ramesh Ekka, one accused arrested by police for allegedly raping a girl in Rajgangpur.
In the third incident, the Naked body of a missing girl was found on the bank of the Basundara River under Hemgiri Police limits.
Our parents told us earlier we don’t want to migrate anywhere from Rourkela because it’s the safest city but not a single girl is safe here; every couple of months, there is a rape case filed, even the minors are included. I want to address this topic because we have been receiving news from all over the country and cities in the states for the last few months. Through this article, we aim to create awareness among people about the misfortune we want to bring.
